The Lord's Prayer
Most Sunday worship services include the saying of the Lord’s Prayer. The wording spoken by our congregation is as follows:

"Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen."

The Communion Service
Disciples of Christ congregations celebrate communion every Sunday.

As people of the table, we affirm the grace of God in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice on the cross. We seek to be strengthened by God’s presence through the bread and cup, which were used by Jesus to demonstrate the covenant initiated by God’s grace.

We practice “open communion,” which means that all Christians are invited to the Lord’s Table regardless of their church membership or denominational affiliation.

Baptism
We practice believer’s baptism by immersion.  Baptism is the demonstration and declaration of a person’s belief and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  We consider Acts 2:38 in which Peter says, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  Baptism by immersion represents the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The repentant believer declares death to the old life of sin and birth to the new life in Christ Jesus.

The Invitation to the Christian Life and Church Membership
Following each worship service an invitation is offered to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Persons accepting this invitation may come forward during the hymn of invitation and stand with the minister.

  • The invitation is accepted by the confession of faith based on Matthew 16: 15-16, Mark 8:29; and Luke 9: 18-20: “I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and I accept Him as my Lord and Savior.”
  • A service of baptism will be scheduled by the pastor for those seeking baptism.
  • A person accepting this invitation may also indicate their desire to establish membership at Central Christian Church.
  • Those who desire to transfer their letter of church membership from another church are also invited to come forward during the hymn of invitation. Those coming forward will be asked to affirm their faith in Christ. Central Christian Church will send a written request for the letter of church membership to be transferred.
  • Also, during the invitation hymn, those who would renew or extend their commitment to Christ may also come forward to demonstrate their next step on the discipleship journey
